How the 30/30 challenge works

Your 30 minutes don't have to happen at once. Short sessions through the day add up.

  1. Tap Start

Settle into a comfortable deep squat. The ring fills minute by minute.

  2. Tap Stop when you stand up

The session is saved and added to today's total.

  3. Repeat through the day

A few minutes here and there until you reach your daily goal.

  4. Watch Day 1 turn into Day 30

The day counter and your streak show how far you've come.

Day 6 of 30: five days at goal, today at 12 of 30 minutes.

Everything the challenge needs, nothing it doesn't

A timer that keeps running

Start the timer and put your phone away. It keeps counting on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and tells you when you reach your goal.

  • Notification at your daily goal, optionally every 5 minutes
  • Live timer on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island
  • Daily goal of 30 minutes, adjustable from 5 to 180
Lock Screen notification: Daily goal reached. 30:00 today. The timer is still running.

Why the deep squat?

Hours of sitting at a desk, in the car or on the sofa can leave your hips and ankles feeling stiff. Resting in a deep squat, known in yoga as malasana or garland pose, is a simple way to break up sitting.

You don't need equipment, a mat or a gym. You need a few minutes, some floor, and a timer that remembers what you did.

Squat only as deep as is comfortable, put something under your heels if you need support, and stand up if you feel pain. If you have an injury or a medical condition, talk to a qualified healthcare professional before you start.

Questions and answers

What is the 30/30 squat challenge?

Spend 30 minutes a day in a deep squat, for 30 days in a row. ThirtyThirty counts your minutes, shows which challenge day you're on and keeps your streak.

Do I have to squat for 30 minutes in one go?

No. Most people collect their minutes in short sessions through the day. Every session counts toward today's goal.

Can I change the daily goal?

Yes. The goal is 30 minutes by default and you can set anything from 5 to 180 minutes. A new goal applies from today; earlier days keep theirs.

Does the timer keep running when I lock my phone?

Yes. The timer keeps counting in the background and shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island on iOS 16.2 or later. You'll get a notification when you reach your goal.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no account and no sign-up. Your sessions stay on your device.

What does Pro add?

A 30-day map of your challenge, a calendar with your full history, a weekly rhythm chart, long-term totals and achievements. The timer, daily goal, notifications and guide work without Pro.

Which devices does ThirtyThirty run on?
